Small grassy perennial fern with a long rhizome in the shape of a "globule" tracing, with erect filiform leaves, usually more than 5 cm long in the long term.

Originally from Europe and Africa, it develops in lakes and peatlands at varying levels.

Pilularia globulifera forms dense and sometimes extensive carpets, of a characteristic soft green.

In nature, the plant begins to grow underwater and fruits when coming out of the water in summer.

It then emits hairy spherical sporocarps, more than 3-4 mm in diameter at maturity, subssesile, usually aerial, located at the base of the foliage.
